Présentation

At last it?s spring, and in our first exhibition of the season we?ll be presenting the works of just one artist, Paul Rey. He will be here for the opening on Saturday April 19 at 6:00 pm to meet you.

- Paul Rey, from his studio in Lavaur in the Tarn region of France, uses an artistic printing technique that involves engraving on linoleum plates to create designs in relief, intaglio or both.

This engraving technique has since been used extensively in the printing of children?s books and in the production of propaganda posters. It has also become an art form used by artists such as Picasso and Matisse to create unique images. Paul Rey jubilantly embraces the history of this medium, etching his mark in a style all his own.

He says: "After having practiced painting, drawing and ceramics, linocut seemed to me to be a technique capable of rediscovering a certain simplicity, a certain roughness, a synthetic spirit allied to a raw charm that forces us to go straight to the essentials. My linocuts are a little rough but detailed, colorful but often monochrome, figurative, rectangular, ironic with playful undertones, sensitive, guaranteed to be conceived without artificial intelligence and recognized as capable of tickling the neuron.
