Discover this exceptional place, located in Colombières sur Orb , in the northwest of Hérault, in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut-Languedoc .
Climbers, hikers, swimmers and nature lovers: enjoy the breathtaking scenery .
Enjoy a unique place with varied landscapes. The mountains, the forests and the waterfalls dug by the stream of Arles make the Gorges de Colombières wilder than the Gorges d'Héric.
There are many hikes to reach the Caroux, the most famous of which is the 13km (8miles) long " PR des Gorges de Colombières ", with probably one of the biggest difference in altitude existing in "PR" in the Hérault department (+818m). To get there, follow the RD908, a free car park is indicated in Colombières.
Prepare yourself for about 5 hours of walking, follow the yellow markings which allow you to go up the Gorges under the shade of the chestnut trees (rather rough start, 400m of positive difference in altitude).
Discover the rocks which shelter troglodyte houses before taking advantage of the pools, at La Fage.
The descent is on an ancient Roman road, which winds through chestnut groves, between heather and broom. Passageways with large flagstones are regularly placed for your safety.
Bivouac is forbidden in the Gorges and on the paths.
Fires are also forbidden.
Please, respect the surroundings and take your rubbish with you.
For everyone's safety, please respect the sanitary rules.
We do not recommend this hike in foggy or wet weather, as some passages may be slippery and dangerous, also, we do not recommend it if you are prone to vertigo.
We strongly advise you not to go alone on the hiking trails.
