The signposting does not lead to the village, but leaves directly across the river, in the direction of Le Verdier-Haut and the Gorges d'Héric. After the footbridge of sighs, you climb the path of the Guards. The quality of its recent restoration will make you forget the slope. 671m D+ in 2km (1.2miles) to the Bartouyre pass! The break will be well deserved. At the pass, the slope becomes gentler to the benefit of the recently developed Biterrois trail, which offers safe passages and relatively flat ground up to the Baraques de Caylus. The descent to Colombières is now only a formality. The views of the square tower and the Albine torrent are magnificent.
